GenAI is transforming the way people think about their work and giving businesses of all sizes an opportunity to re-imagine everything from their internal processes to the way they engage with their customers. These new capabilities are evolving at a rapid pace, and that creates new challenges for IT and security teams to protect their enterprise data.

With so much work happening on the web, the browser offers a unique place to harness the value of AI across many different workflows. Chrome is already trusted by hundreds of millions of business users to help them be productive. AI surfaced in the browser is transforming how employees are getting work done on the web, and Chrome offers IT teams a streamlined way to manage and control their enterprise data.

New ways to help employees be productive

Gemini in Chrome was just announced at Google I/O, and later this year it will be made more widely available to businesses. Employees will get AI assistance right in the browser they already use, helping them get work and tasks done faster. Gemini in Chrome can help users understand information about what's in their current tab, allowing them to quickly summarize information, troubleshoot complex problems, and brainstorm new ideas. Chrome Enterprise provides controls to configure Gemini in Chrome.

Managing corporate data

Chrome Enterprise already offers a variety of management options to help control how AI is being used in the organization and manage risks to corporate data, including:

  • Granular policies to allow or block individual features and define how data is used
  • Global AI governance controls to automatically allow or block new AI features
  • Advanced data loss prevention, URL filtering, and data masking rules can be applied through Chrome Enterprise Premium

These controls will be made available for Gemini in Chrome and other new AI features that come to the browser. To support organizations to navigate how they want to approach GenAI on the web, Chrome Enterprise has published a useful guide to help IT teams create strong internal AI governance.
